[January 26, 1883] -
In a difficulty on Skaggs' Creek last Sunday, Dud. McClure was shot and seriously wounded by James Mize. The ball entered in McClure's back and passed out through the right lung. The particulars could not be ascertained. Mize has not been arrested and, it is said, has left the county. McClure's physician thinks he will recover. [1]

[February 13, 1883] -
A warrant for malicious shooting and wounding has been issued for James Mize, who shot Dud. McClure in a difficulty during the holidays. Mize is at home now, and will be arrested this week. McClure has recovered from his wounds. [2]

James Mize, charged with malicious shooting and wounding, is in jail and will have his examining trial this week. [3]

[February 20, 1883] -
James Mize, for shooting Dud McClure, was tried Saturday and held in $400 bail to Circuit Court. In default of bail he went to jail. [4]
