At Cotton's Store in Rockcastle a man named Townsend was fatally wounded by Biggie Mullins in a drunken row. [1]

Three men were killed in a saloon fight on the Kentucky Central railroad, near Pine Hill Christmas night, one of whom, named John Townsend, was shot through the heart by Biggs Mullins. The names of the other parties could not be learned. [2]

[January 2, 1883] -
According to the best accounts, John Townsend and old Champ Mullins were fighting when Biggie Mullins, a nephew of old Champ, interfered. He knocked Townsend down with a rock, and then jumping on his prostrate body, he stamped it into a jelly. Townsend died from his wounds Thursday morning. [3]

Biggie Mullins, who killed John Townsend on Christmas day, was brought before two magistrates last week for investigation, but the case was postponed. The matter will now probably go before the grand jury. [4]

Biggie Mullins, who killed Jno. Townsend during the holidays, was tried last Saturday before 'Squires Maguire and Drew and acquitted. It is said that the testimony showed that the killing was in self defense. [5]
