Deputy Sheriffs Kill Man Wanted For Robbery, Whitley, 1898

[June 24, 1898] -


Pete Crabtree was shot and killed by Sheriff George Kidd, of Whitley county while resisting arrest for robbery. Crabtree and his brother had stood the officers off with Winchesters the day before. He was pardoned from the penitentiary last November. [1]

[September 21, 1899] -


The governor also pardoned Wm. Cox, Wm. Young and George Kidd, three former deputy sheriffs of Whiteley county, who were sent up last February for two years each for killing Peter Crabtree, a desperate character, who was resisting arrest. [2]

[January 5, 1910] -

Crabtree and his brother are alleged to have killed Joe Hickman some years ago, and served a term in the penitentiary. Later his brother was killed by Deputy Sheriff George Kidd of Whitley county. [3]
